We are very proud to announce that we’ve joined the Surfers Against Sewage Oceans Network to further our commitment to fighting plastic pollution and inspiring the next generation to protect the ocean.
Who are Surfers Against Sewage?
Surfers Against Sewage is an environmental charity that campaigns for better water quality and cleaner oceans. They work on local, national and international levels to protect our beaches from pollution from sewage spills, industrial waste and littering. Their mission is ‘to recycle the ocean’s natural resources for all people everywhere’.
They were founded by a group of surfers who were concerned about pollution affecting their local beaches in Cornwall during the early 1980s when there was no regulation or government agency regulating waste management practices in England & Wales. Since then, they have grown into a leading environmental charity with over 100,000 members worldwide; promoting sustainable development through beach cleans and many other educational projects around the world!
This new partnership aligns with our work to educate children and adults about challenging topics, in correspondence with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including:
– Goal No. 3 Good Health & Wellbeing
– Goal No. 6 Clean Water & Sanitation
– Goal No. 14 Life below water.
Why are we so excited about this partnership?
We love Surfers Against Sewage and the work they do. As well as their clear environmental message and mission, Surfers Against Sewage has a strong ethos around community engagement and education, promoting positive change through their campaigns, partnerships with organisations like ours, as well as their day-to-day activities in helping communities achieve cleaner water environments in their local areas.
We have a responsibility to the next generation. We need to be more aware of what we are doing to the planet and be more conscientious about the resources we use. This doesn’t just mean better recycling techniques: it means we need to be more responsible with our waste in general. A clean beach is not only important for surfers, but also for everyone who enjoys spending time by the sea; beaches are one of our planet’s greatest assets and should be protected at all costs!
